PRIDEFEST 2025 Theme announcement: WE ARE HERE

‘We Are Here’ is the theme of PrideFEST 2025, asserting the visibility, resilience, and unity of the LGBTIQA+ community. Inspired by historic activism, the theme emphasises that queer people have always existed and will continue to take up space unapologetically. It connects Western Australia to global struggles and recognises both past and present fights for equality.

Beyond history, the theme highlights the geographic and cultural diversity of LGBTIQA+ people across WA. It also delivers a message of solidarity, supporting those facing isolation and urging allies and institutions to uplift and actively protect queer individuals.

‘We Are Here’ is more than a statement; it represents a commitment to lasting change. It demands society’s accountability, rejects the erasure of queer identities, and ensures that LGBTIQA+ people are seen, heard, and celebrated.

The WA Pride organisation shared on social media, “As we come together for Pridefest 2025, we do so with a clear and unwavering message: We Are Here.”

Pride WA partners with Monique Reeves (she/her) [Monstar Designs (@monstar_dsgns)] as the Theme Designer for Pridefest 2025.

Monique’s concept powerfully reflects the protest elements of the Pridefest 2025 theme. It pays tribute to the 1969 Stonewall riots in New York, which served as a pivotal moment in the fight for LGBTQIA+ rights, increasing pressure for law reform and solidifying the concept of ‘Pride.’

The visual design of the Pridefest 2025 theme honours the artistic talents of New York’s Ellsworth Kelly (1923–2015). It subtly links back to the Stonewall riots through the use of the Walbaum typeface, which closely resembles the lettering on Stonewall protest banners.

The colour palette moves beyond typical rainbow hues. Each colour in the theme represents a uniquely West Australian object: light blue from the Omeo Wreck, pink from Hutt Lagoon, brown from Elephant Rocks in Albany, and green from the Heart-Leaf Mallee.

Pride WA has taken significant steps in recent years to position itself as one of the leading Pride festivals in Australasia.
