Collecting, preserving and celebrating lesbian, gay, trans, bisexual, intersex, Sistergirl and Brotherboy history.

We hold the largest collection of material relating to Australian LGBTIQ+ life, and the largest collection of non-Australian LGBTIQ+ material in Australia. Since its establishment in 1978 the collection has grown to over 600 shelf metres holding over 200,000 items of archive, library, museum and gallery material.

Our book, periodical, audio-visual, poster and object collections are catalogued by item. Other material is only listed by collection and we regularly receive new material, so holdings about your specific area of interest might not be visible in our catalogue.  Please contact us to see if we can help.

Some material contains terms that reflect authors’ views, or those of the period in which the item was written or recorded, but may not be considered appropriate today. These views are not necessarily the views of AQuA. While the information may not reflect current understanding, it is provided in an historical context.
