When visiting the domain of an icon such as Cher, one does ponder the usual questions - will she live up to the hype, will the show be as over the top as you want it to be and will it stand the test of the usually picky Aussie audiences?
Well, yes to all! Cher's return to Sydney after last years Mardi Gras was a triumph on all fronts. Her iconic status was re-affirmed to a massive sold-out audience at the Qudos Bank arena - which had a mix of die hard fans who would scream at anything and the usual lookie-lous who go to shows just cos there is nothing else to do in this supposed cosmopolitan city. (lol - thanks lock out laws!)
With a set list that boggles the mind, Cher paced the show to suit the incredible costume changes (we all love an overdose of Bob Mackie) and a stage set that was just as spectacular - although paired down to suit the variety of venues she was performing in throughout the country. Don't expect a runway or B stage. But we lived for the projections and video screens - some of the best in a concert we have seen for a long long time.
Of course Cher performed all the hits, but like her twitter feed, the show soared thanks to her candid stories and speaking parts where she shared parts of her career and life with the audience.
The show does feel long, but when there is so much to pack into a show - how can one complain? But it really does fit in everything - from the Sonny and Cher show - too ABBA. Its everything you could want from Cher and done with the flair and class only she can provide.
We don't want to go into too much depth about the ins and outs of the show - as this is one show you need to see for yourself - its bucket list stuff... so don't hate us for not rabbiting on about every detail - do yourself a favour and grab one of the final tickets available for Saturday's show at Qudos Bank arena and the final night at ICC Theatre at Darling Harbour.
What will your grannie be doing on those nights? (A quote from the legend herself)
10/5 - PHENOMENAL!
