Target announced Friday it will begin to do away with gender-based labeling in several of its departments – including toys, bedding, and entertainment.
“Over the past year, guests have raised important questions about a handful of signs in our stores that offer product suggestions based on gender,” reads the statement from Target
“We heard you, and we agree. Right now, our teams are working across the store to identify areas where we can phase out gender-based signage to help strike a better balance.”
Molly Snyder, a Target spokeswoman, told NBC News that Target’s approach is a dynamic one.
“We tried to look at what makes sense and what doesn’t,” Snyder said.
Target went on to write that changes will continue to emerge in stores within the next few months.
