Today DIVA Co-Chairs Dejay Toborek and Greg Steele announced the headline performers for the annual awards ceremony.
"We are pleased to announce that we have a bevy of amazing live singers performing short sets throughout the night to entertain our fabulously frocked audience in 2 weeks time" said Mr Toborek.
Mr Steele said, "Firstly, we can confirm that Paul Capsis will be performing a short set at DIVA 2009. Paul is of course one of Australia’s most acclaimed and successful cabaret and concert artists and can boast a Helpmann Award for ‘Best Performer in an Australian Contemporary Concert’ and Green Room Award for ‘Best Artist’, among many other awards. Paul has been a great supporter of DIVA in the past, and the Avid Events team is excited to have him involved in this year’s revival of the much loved awards night.”
“It is also with great pleasure that we announce Margi de Ferranti as another key performer for the evening. Margi has performed roles in many major musicals such as Mamma Mia!, Fame - The Musical, Les Miserables, Buddy Holly Story and South Pacific – The Movie” said Mr Toborek.
“This means two of Australia’s best solo performers from the stage and screen will be entertaining DIVA attendees - needless to say that we are all very excited back at DIVA HQ!” he added.
“But the list does not stop there, the fabulous Super Supremes will be performing for us also through the night, and as anyone who is anyone in this city knows, these girls are an absolutely divine treat to watch and listen to, and are a gorgeously camp addition to the evening!” said Mr Steele.
Mr Steele, “Having the chance to hear not just one, but a number of songs from all of these artists on one night, is going to be an absolutely magical experience. This year’s DIVA will truly be a night for the drag divas of Sydney, a night where the entertainers are entertained.”
“The “Bitch or Boast” After Party does not miss out on the action as we also confirm Dan Murphy, Murray Hood and James Tobin to the lineup. We are very excited to be finishing our night off with some of Sydney’s best DJs, so even if you have other things planned already on Monday evening, you can always join the After Party from midnight and enjoy the continuing entertainment!” says Mr Toborek.
Mr Toborek said, ”I feel we have a knockout entertainment lineup, with the outrageously funny Julia Morris hosting, and the assortment of Australia’s best live singers supporting the drag community of Sydney. Then add the 3 fabulous DJ’s for the After Party into the mix, and then drinks and canapes included for the first 4 hours the awards night.. Well it’s the best value ticket in town by far!”
