Today the 2010 DIVA Awards were launched at Sydney's Stonewall Hotel, with the traditional unveiling of the awards show poster artwork - which has become an iconic graphic work for the GBLTI community.
A hotly contested spot for any Drag performer, the model this year is iconic avant guard showgirl, Verushka Darling. (Previous DIVA Award recipient for Best Variety Show)
The poster and event creative this year ties in with another iconic element - the events venue - the brilliant Museum Of Contemporary Art at the Rocks Sydney.
"It was a natural choice to have Verushka appear in the creative for this years event, we wanted someone who could hold a very specific 1930's art deco style, and Verushka is one of the most versatile performers out there - we wanted to encompass humour, style and class all in one image. Our creative was done by Rob Manser of AKA Entertainment and he did a spectacular job. Shane Dunn's costume fit the bill perfectly and with Verushka - we had a trifecta to get the imagery and representation of the awards we wanted." said DIVA chair, Greg Steele (aka Sheila Bleige).
DIVA will introduce online voting for two of its categories this year, community favourites - FAVOURITE VENUE and FAVOURITE DJ. These awards can be voted for by the general public right here on Guidetogay.com
Other categories that the public can vote for will happen on the traditional PUBLIC VOTING DAY. To be held at NEVERMIND nightclub - Saturday 4th September 2010 (During the day)
