New Mardi Gras Appoints New CEO

New Mardi Gras (NMG) today confirmed that long-term Mardi Gras volunteer and former Treasurer Michael Rolik has been appointed as CEO replacing Anna McInerney when she leaves the role on the 18th December.

Michael has 15 years volunteer experience with the Sydney Gay & Lesbian Mardi Gras, having worked in a diverse range of roles including Parade Start Director, Parade Co-chair, Sleaze Ball Co-chair, Parade Director, Treasurer and Board Member.

Also during that time, Michael worked in a variety of senior management positions, including a global talent management company in Australia and the UK and for one of Australia’s leading insurance brands.

Michael also worked on the Sydney 2000 Opening ceremony athlete’s parade and held production management positions at the 2006 Doha Asian Games. Most recently, Michael ran his own management consultancy specialising in management development working with corporate and not for profit organisations in Sydney, London and Hong Kong.

“We are delighted to welcome Michael back to the organisation in the role of CEO ,” said NMG Co-Chair Steph Sands. “He brings a wealth of experience from his rich history of Mardi Gras involvement, in addition to his event management and corporate management experience. The board is confident that he is the right person to take the organisation to the next level.”

“In 1993 when I saw my first parade my passion was ignited and the following year I answered an ad for parade volunteers,” said Rolik. “I was immediately hooked and Mardi Gras has been a part of my life ever since because to put it simply, it allowed me to be who I am.

“Over the years I’ve had the pleasure of working for and with many diverse and talented people across both Mardi Gras organisations. I am thrilled and feel privileged to be in a leadership position for one of Sydney’s and the world’s most iconic cultural festivals and one that delivers significant social and economic benefit.

“I have tremendous regard and admiration for the expertise, commitment and passion of Mardi Gras’s staff, volunteers and Board. I’m delighted to be working with them as well as our stakeholders and sponsors as we deliver our best season and beyond.

“I’d like to thank and acknowledge Anna McInerney for her solid leadership and contribution over the last 5 years. Anna has steered the organisation from a start up company and grown it to a leading hallmark community event that enjoys a strong brand both domestically and internationally. I wish Anna every success for the future.”

Most of the team have had the pleasure of working with Michael throughout our own roles in past Mardi Gras and we know he will make a sensational CEO. Congratulations!
