SUMMARY:SYDNEY GAY AND LESBIAN MARDI GRAS PARADE 2026
DESCRIPTION:Can you feel it? \nIt starts as a heartbeat — one that’s echoed through this city since 1978.\nThen the bass drops: the roar of the crowd\, the thunder of the Dykes on Bikes\, the shimmer of sequins under streetlights. From that first rev to the final float\, you can feel it rising — an energy that’s wild\, defiant\, and beautifully alive. \nThis is Ecstatica — the 48th anniversary of the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras Parade\, lighting up Oxford Street\, Flinders Street\, and Anzac Parade on Saturday 28 February 2026. \nOver 200 floats and 12\,000 marchers will bring the night to life — led proudly by our 78ers\, First Nations LGBTQIA+SB communities\, and the fearless icons who continue to shape our story. Together\, they’ll transform Sydney’s most famous streets into a dazzling current of queer celebration and activism — a reminder of how far we’ve come\, and how bright we burn when we rise together. \nJoin hundreds of thousands of people from Hyde Park to Moore Park as the Parade turns the city electric — a living\, breathing spectacle of love\, unity\, and ecstatic joy. \nFrom free viewing areas to premium grandstands and Accessible Viewing Zones with inclusive amenities and shuttle transfers\, the Parade is for everyone — because joy means more when it’s shared. \nThis is our party.\nThis is our power. \nThis is Ecstatica.

SUMMARY:Pride March
DESCRIPTION:Be part of this historic moment where LGBTQIA+ people walk side by side with friends\, families and allies across one of our most famous icons; the Sydney Harbour Bridge. \nThis is an event for all those who want equality. Everywhere.\nIn this momentous occasion\, 50\,000 people will march across the bridge in a spectacular act of solidarity and coming together as one. \nThis is a moment to reflect on those that cannot be there to walk this journey. It is proudly standing for those whose situations make it impossible to live their truth and share the freedoms we do in our country. It is remembering the injustices we are still fighting for and honouring those that have paved the way before us.

Previous WorldPride celebrations include New York in 2019 marking 50 years since the Stonewall uprising\, and Copenhagen in 2021 celebrating both WorldPride and the EuroGames. Sydney was chosen by InterPride members to be the host of WorldPride in 2023\, and we couldn’t be more proud.  \nSydney WorldPride events will take place from February 17 2023 until March 5 2023\, with the official Sydney WorldPride Opening Ceremony taking place on February 24\, a First Nations Gathering Space\, a game-changing Human Rights Conference\, an unforgettable Pride March across the Sydney Harbour Bridge\, a closing ceremony and a sensational party on Sydney’s iconic Bondi Beach (plus lots more events still to be announced)! \nWe are developing a full arts and cultural program across Greater Sydney reflective of our diverse LGBTIQ+ communities. It will span theatre\, visual arts\, music and cabaret and have a strong focus on First Nations peoples and the Asia-Pacific. \nWe’ve taken the opportunity to bring WorldPride to the southern hemisphere for the first time – not only representing Australian states and territories\, but also bringing focus to our neighbouring countries in the Asia-Pacific region who do not all have the same level of equality and human rights that we do. \nSydney WorldPride will help shine a light on these injustices. Our Human Rights Conference will be a platform for discussion\, ideas exchange\, and thought leadership. We’re aiming to give marginalised communities solidarity and support on the world stage like never before. \nWe’re also committed to ensuring our festival is accessible to people of all abilities. Transport\, communications\, amenities and related services will be optimised for overall comfort and enjoyment of attendees. To utilise accessibility from anywhere in the world\, all possible digital avenues will be explored so that remote audiences can be a part of Sydney WorldPride online.

SUMMARY:Darwin Pride 2022
DESCRIPTION:In 1985\, a group of passionate Darwinites came together to create the very first Darwin Pride Festival – promoting diversity\, equality and celebrating LGBTQIA+ communities. These brave individuals shined the spotlight on issues that needed to change and celebrated what already made us shine. Over three decades on\, we’re continuing what they began. \nIn 2019\, Darwin Pride became an incorporated association for the purposes of: \n  \n\nprogram  and  facilitate  events  throughout  the  year  which  meet  the  needs  of  the  LGBTQIA+ community liaise with government\, community groups and members of the public to understand and meet the needs of the LGBTQIA+ community and the broader community as appropriate\nfundraise and utilise available grants to provide the above services\ndonate to causes and events which we believe supports the ethos\, objects and purposes of the Association\n\n  \nTop End Pride is run by volunteers who are passionate about equality\, and diversity. We meet on a regular basis to plan and coordinate events and to work closely with local Government bodies to ensure we have our voices heard for future generations. \nIt is our mission to continue to raise awareness within our community and campaign for freedoms that will allow our people to live their lives on a genuinely equal footing. \nDarwin Pride (NT) Inc\, rebrand to Top End Pride (NT) Inc. \nAt the 2020 Annual General Meeting\, the members of Darwin Pride (NT) Incorporated discussed and agreed to rename and rebrand the organisation to Top End Pride (NT) Incorporated.  The new logo was launched in 2021. \nThe Committee chose this design for the following reasons: \n*The first notable piece of the art work is the outline of the Northern Territory as it identifies us being from this great land. \n*The colours of Pride are diverse and we decided to include such colours which also represent our spectacular sunsets seen here in the Northern Territory. \n*As the Brolga can often be seen in the stunning parks of Northern Territory\, we decided to have this great crane as a feature of our logo. \n

SUMMARY:2022 Sydney Gay & Lesbian Mardi Gras Parade
DESCRIPTION:A dazzling display of pride and self-expression will descend on the Sydney Cricket Ground once more as Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras announces the return of their world-famous Parade on Saturday 5 March\, 2022. \nThe Mardi Gras Festival will make a grand return next year from 18 February – 6 March 2022. Bigger and better than ever\, next year’s Festival will feature a packed program of events spanning theatre\, visual arts\, parties\, community gatherings\, panel discussions and more. The full festival program will feature a host of beloved events as well as some new surprises to be announced in November. \nAll at once a powerful protest and glittering celebration of diversity\, the Parade is the centerpiece of the Mardi Gras season. The iconic event brings together LGBTQI+ people from all over to share their passion\, champion equal rights and show their pride to the world. \nThe 2022 Mardi Gras theme is UNITED WE SHINE\, signifying that LGBTQI+ communities shine brighter together and by standing up against hate and inequality as a collective\, the message of love and inclusion is heard louder. \nMardi Gras CEO Albert Kruger said\, “Our theme this year is a reminder of all that we can achieve when our communities rise as one. It is a call to stand united against the inequalities LGBTQI+ people continue to face\, and empowers us with the strength that our history shows: that we have the power to create a more equitable society. \n“For over 40 years we have fought for equality\, allowing us to live openly and authentically\, free from stigma. A lot has changed for the better and the new generation of LGBTQI+ Australians are growing up in a more accepting time. \n“The time to use our voices and rally together has never been more important than it is now. We need to be stronger together so that we can fight discrimination and move closer to a future of equality\,” said Kruger.   \nThe 2022 Parade will see thousands of spectators cheer on as marchers take to the field in a display of colour\, community and love. A live broadcast will accompany the event so audiences from across the country can tune in to be a part of the celebrations. \nOrganisers have decided that returning to Sydney Cricket Ground in 2022 provides the best chance for the Parade to proceed\, no matter what the COVID situation determines early next year. Unlike operating a traditional Mardi Gras Parade on Oxford Street – which attracts around 250\,000 spectators – the SCG allows room to scale the Parade up or down to ensure it takes place in the case that Sydney does experience further restrictions. \n“Our priority with planning for next year’s Parade was ensuring we can once again deliver a safe event\,” said Kruger. \n“There’s still uncertainty of what March is going to look like for us. Mardi Gras can’t guarantee that in the next few months things will be back to normal and we can safely have hundreds of thousands spectators on the streets. \n“The Parade is too important to the community to risk having to cancel. So right now\, when decisions need to be made\, the SCG is the best option for us to guarantee that we can come together to keep the spirit of Mardi Gras’ history of protest and celebration shining bright in 2022. \n“What we do know is that we can stage an incredible and safe Parade in the SCG\,” said Kruger. \nThe Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras plans to bring the Parade back to Oxford Street for its 45th anniversary in 2023 as a feature of Sydney WorldPride\, the first WorldPride held in the southern hemisphere. \nMinister for Tourism Stuart Ayres said the NSW Government’s support of the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras underscored its commitment to make NSW a welcoming destination for all visitors. \n“Mardi Gras is a celebration of NSW’s pride\, diversity and inclusion\, and we are immensely proud that it has become one of the largest and most successful LGBTQI+ events in the world\,” Mr Ayres said. \n“Since 2009\, the Mardi Gras Parade is estimated to have generated approximately $390 million in total visitor spend from intrastate\, interstate and international visitors. The event is watched around the world and continues to promote Sydney and NSW to millions of potential visitors into the future.” \nLord Mayor Clover Moore said: “The City of Sydney is a proud\, long-term supporter of the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras and I commend the organisation for continuing to adapt to the ongoing challenges presented by Covid over the past 18 months. \n“Mardi Gras’ decision to return to the Sydney Cricket Ground for the 2022 Mardi Gras Parade is prudent given the uncertainty posed by the pandemic\, which we will continue to face for some time yet. \n“I am sure that the 2022 event will build on the success of this year’s spectacular parade. And I look forward to it being a successful curtain raiser to WorldPride in 2023\, when I hope we can all return to celebrate on Oxford Street with Sydneysiders and visitors from around Australia and the world.” \nTickets for the 2022 Mardi Gras Parade go on sale Monday 15 November. Join the waitlist at www.mardigras.org.au  to receive notifications when tickets go on sale.   \nAlthough there is a small price for general admission tickets to help cover the costs of operating a COVID-Safe event\, a hardship ballot with 3\,000 free Parade tickets has been set up to support those who are experiencing financial strain and cannot afford a ticket to Parade. Applications for the hardship ballot open on Monday 15 November. \n78ers and Mardi Gras members will also receive two complimentary tickets to the Parade event. \nExpressions of interest are now open for anyone wishing to enter a Parade float\, volunteer for the Festival or have a stall at Fair Day in 2022. Applications can be found online at www.mardigras.org.au. \nThe 2022 Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras Festival is proudly supported by Principal Partner American Express\, Government Partner and Sponsor of the Mardi Gras Festival\, the City of Sydney and Strategic Sponsor the NSW Government through its tourism and major events agency Destination NSW. \nTHE DETAILS \nWhat: 2022 Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras Parade \nWhere: Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) \nWhen: Saturday 5 March\, 2022 \nTickets: On sale Monday 15 November  \nMore info/ join the waitlist: www.mardigras.org.au
