After becoming the top rating program on SBS2 last year, the network moved the Mardi Gras parade broadcast to its leading channel, SBS1. And what a move!
Last night's TV broadcast - a healthy mix of pre-recorded packages highlighting our community, and parade footage - more than doubled in viewers.
The special averaged 281,000 viewers (up from 137,000 on SBS 2 last year).
Mardi Gras CEO, Michael Rolik had earlier spoken of the importance of TV coverage. "SBS joined us for the first time last year to broadcast one of the world’s most spectacular night time parades. Having a TV broadcast of the Mardi Gras Parade is really important to our organisation. It enables us to reach regional, interstate and international audiences who can’t get to Sydney for the big night, and to share our celebration of pride and diversity with a broader audience."
Congratulations to SBS on a great show - and to see more of the parade, check out Guidetogay.com's photo galleries, video sections and of course, the official Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras group on GTG.
HAPPY MARDI GRAS!
