The nominations for the 72nd Golden Globe Awards were announced bright and early this morning at the Beverly Hilton hotel. This year’s nominees featured many LGBT-inclusive films and TV series.

The HBO TV movie, ‘A Normal Heart’ was a clear favourite amongst voters. Directed by Ryan Murphy and written by Larry Kramer, the film depicts the rise of the HIV-AIDS crisis in New York City amongst gay people during the early 1980’s.

The emotional film earned a spot in the Best TV Movie or Mini-Series category. Mark Ruffalo was recognized in the Best Actor field for his performance as AIDS activist Ned Weeks, while Matt Bomer's role as the lover Weeks loses to the disease was shortlisted in the Supporting Actor category.

The lavish Stephen Sondheim musical ‘Into The Woods’ scored a nod for Best Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy, where it will compete against the heart-warming film, ‘Pride’ - which follows a group of gay and lesbian activists who decided to support the UK miner's strike in the 1980s. ‘Into The Woods’ star Emily Blunt was recognized in the Best Actress field, while Meryl Streep picked up a Supporting Actress nod for her role as the witch.
transparentThe critically acclaimed streaming series ‘Transparent’ was nominated for Best TV Series, Musical or Comedy, as well as Best Actor for Jeffrey Tambor's performance as Maura, a transgender woman coming out late in life. ‘Orange Is The New Black’ and ‘Girls’ were both shortlisted for Best TV Series, Musical or Comedy. Alan Cumming was also nominated for his supporting role on ‘The Good Wife’.

Jessica Lange’s marvelous performance in ‘American Horror Story: Freak Show’ earned her recognition in the Best Actress in a Mini-Series or TV Movie field, while Kathy Bates picked up a Supporting Actress nod for her work as the bearded lady.

The 72nd Annual Golden Globe Awards, hosted by Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, will take place Sunday, January 11, 2015.
