Deborah Cox: The diva has two faces

Gay icon, Deborah Cox is headed back to Broadway with the revival of ‘Jekyll & Hyde: The Musical’. The voice behind circuit anthems ‘Absolutely Not’ & ‘Nobody’s Supposed To Be Here’ will star opposite ‘American Idol’ graduate & ‘Rock Of Ages’ lead, Constantine Maroulis.

The original ‘Jekyll & Hyde’ ran for 4 years & became a modern classic with songs like ‘This Is The Moment’ & ‘Someone Like You’. The new production is on a 25-week US tour (that includes LA’s Pantages Theatre & Washington’s Kennedy Centre) before opening on Broadway April 2013.

While she’s busy treading the boards, Deborah continues to werq the clubs with her latest dancefloor slammer ‘Remember Me (From The Ghetto)’. A collabo with DJ George Vector, the song is a re-vamp of the 1997 BlueBoy track ‘Remember Me’ - which itself is a reworking of ad-libs from Marlena Shaw’s ‘Woman Of The Ghetto’. Deborah’s new version combines elements of both, & is being championed by everyone from NYC DJ Corey Craig to gossip blogger Perez Hilton.

While some artists may avoid blurring the lines, this sort of diversity is nothing new for Deborah - who's as at home singing with Andrea Bocelli as she is with Swedish House Mafia.

While clocking six Top 20 R&B singles (including her duet with Whitney, ‘Same Script Different Cast’), Cox also has a Grammy-nominated Jazz album, & eleven #1’s on Billboard’s Club chart. Deborah first took Broadway by storm in the title role of Elton John & Tim Rice’s ‘Aida’. She then transformed one of the show’s ballads into a thumping club joint with ‘Easy As Life’.

Could some ‘Jekyll & Hyde’ club remixes be in the not too distant future? (‘Someone Like You’ would be heaven!) In the meantime both the ‘Jekyll & Hyde’ soundtrack & ‘Remember Me (From The Ghetto)’ are available on iTunes.

We last caught up with Deborah at World Pride in London. Check out our interview here…
