Hello, my darlings! Welcome to my latest column - it has been an interesting month and some fab stuff coming up for Western Sydney - so let's get to it and make a difference for our community out west!
Sunday 28th October will see the Parramatta River Foreshore explode in Gay Pride with the return of the annual Parramatta Pride Picnic in its 12th year.
Your hosts for the day will be the fabulous Marilyn Mootrub & Pomara Fifth and on the decks DJ Shaft.
There will be activities galore throughout the day including live entertainment, yoga class, book launch, readings, face painting, the rainbow kid’s area, rap artists, the gay & lesbian choir, bands, 35 community stalls, and the Priscilla Ferry (coming from Circular Quay). Various food vendors, Coffee van and a Fully Licensed bar. A special event called "THE GAYMAZING RACE" (where participants race around Parramatta CBD collecting stamps and clues and the WINNERS get prizes). The theme of this year's picnic is '' NO ONE LEFT BEHIND " to reflect the less than favorable response to Marriage Equality last year - we want our community in Western Sydney to know they are not alone, we want to be out and proud and living our best lives in the burbs !!! I really hope people make an effort to come to the PRIDE PICNIC, Riverside Foreshore in Parramatta (Ferry wharf) from 11 am - 5 pm
Get busy on all the socials with the hashtag: #PARRAPRIDE18.
Well in other news on 6th October, Heaven Social Dance had one of its quietest nights of the year.
Has our community become COMPLACENT?
Do our patrons believe we are always going to be there?
I understand that there is always going to be other things on but people have to understand we only do 5 dance’s a year, if people can’t attend 3 of them there is no point in us doing it.
We have just locked in all our dates for 2019 and we can only continue to run if we get the numbers to cover the cost of running the event, with all proceeds after initial cost being donated to charity. If we can’t get the numbers there is no point in me taking time off work and stressing and worrying about something other people do not care too much about.
On a personal note I created heaven with my fellow sisters and partners in crime to provide a safe place for the LGBTQI community in Western Sydney, their friends and family to socialise and drag queens to have somewhere to perform but it seems there’s not a lot of loyalty a lot of things have changed.
We have one more dance left at the end of the year it’s for World AIDS Day it will be our last “Red Party #7”.
All proceeds going to ACON so please mark it in your diary 8th December with 3 big shows 8, 9 &10pm hosted by LayDee KinMee, Melicious D’amage and Pomara Fifth with 12 fabulous performance @ Mounties Bowling Club Fairfield from 6 PM to 12 AM. $15 on the door.
In other news!
The Polly’s Club sadly regrets that they have to CANCEL The Rainbow Costume Ball scheduled for 20th October due to a lack of interest and a lack of tickets sales. I am not quite sure what is going on but here’s another case of complacency people want these things, suggest these things but then don’t support them it is really sad because The Polly’s Club for many years has supported many organisations and have donated thousands of dollars to charity I was quite looking forward to the rainbow costume ball it was something different. I think people forget it costs money to run these kind of events I really hope people get behind the Polly's club for their World AIDS Day Dance "Under The Mirror Ball" 1 December @ Marrickville Town Hall tickets available online from 15th October for $25 or on the door for $30 on the night for more info www.thepollyscub.com.au
Show has been produced by my sister in crime at Pride Radio 89.3fm and Polly's Club member Melicious D’amage and from what I have been told the Pollys Girls and boys are going to be working their bits off.
