Beverly Buttercup (72)

What’s up Buttercup?

So, Mardi Gras has come and gone after 17 times marching in the parade, I made the decision to boycott the parade and party this year and save my holidays for later on in the year (code for “being a lazy old queen” lol). With that said I don’t think I missed out on much but saved a lot of money. Things are starting to get a little cold in Western Sydney I’m looking forward to catching up with friends and doing some things I normally wouldn’t do there’s always something to do in western Sydney. This month I will celebrate 26 years of doing drag meaning I’m technically 52 years young OMG it’s my birthday = YUCK. That means I will reduce my responsibilities and push it onto my drag daughters and other high-profile queens in the Western Sydney Community. Am I starting to feel a little clucky, do we have a new member to the Buttercup family? YASSSSS I will be a  grandmother lol grandfather in April OMG I’m feeling old  but excited.

Enough about me! Saturday 30th March The Polly’s Club will present “BEEHIVE”…Welcome to the 60s at Marrickville Town Hall from 7pm -12am so dress up in your best 60’s gear and you could win best dressed. Tickets are available for $25 online or $30 on the door, drinks and snacks are available on the night or you can BYO (no glass bottles).

After 17 years of volunteering at 2GLF I have decided not to re-apply to do a gay radio program in Western Sydney for various reasons, basically it has all become a little too hard for this old gal. I would like to say a huge big thank you to all our listeners at PRIDE RADIO 89.3FM and those that have supported Gay radio in Western Sydney for the last 17 Years. To all the presenters, special guests, DJs that came out to Liverpool to the studio and those people that donated money to keep us on Air in 2018 your support is has been invaluable. If you are interested in putting a show together please contact the cooperative by the end of February 2019. Our last show will go to air on Sunday 27th February with myself and my girlfriends Melicious D’amage and Fi Fi Fo Fum. www.893fm.com.au

The Bobby Goldsmith Foundation is holding it's annual Mardi Gras Raffle - there are incredible prizes up for grabs - so click here to buy tickets! Or grab them at the BGF stand at Fair Day, or at Bear Bar on Feb 21,22 and 23!

Also this year will be the first year that I do not take holidays for Mardi Gras and will not be attending the parade or the party it will save me a lot of money as a lot of things of changed in the community some good and some bad but this year I’m going to give it a miss and do something different go to a recovery – catch up on the Sunday at “Disco On The Green” Marrickville Bowling Club from 1pm-9pm Lots of entertainment and it’s free!! And I will officially be free to do whatever I want on a Sunday as of March.

Until next time (13March)

All good queens go to Heaven!

All good queens go to heaven!

We farewelled one of my best friends and a long time Heaven Social Dance committee member Ian Stumbles on 4th January he will be sadly missed by many people but I really hope he’s in a better place. The remaining committee members have decided to postpone PopUp Drag on 9th February and dedicate the night to Ian stumbles aka Kerry-Ann Canally and those from Wollongong aka Lola. A drag marathon which we think will be a perfect send off as Ian was such a huge supporter of the Western Sydney drag scene and very passionate about keeping Heaven going into the future.

Two Western Sydney legends will be hosting, Miss Melicious D’amage and Sandy Bottom, with lots of special guess this will be a night of mixed feelings for many people but I encourage as many of you as possible to come on 9th February to Mounties Bowling Club Fairfield, 6pm to midnight, $10 on the door this will help keep the night running into 2019 for more info Check out our Facebook group or a website www.heavensocialdance.com.

In other heaven news, I would like to say a big thank you to everyone who attended the Red Party in December for World Aids Day helping us raise $2,095 for (ACON) that brings us to a total of $28,092 raised for charity since first starting in 2007. Hopefully, we can keep this going as long as possible so please get out and support events in the LGBTQI community.

In more bad news I have decided not to reapply to do the gay radio program PRIDE RADIO in February 2019 after being a volunteer at 89.3FM 2GLF for over 18 years the last 12 months has been the hardest for many different contributing factors we now have to pay to do the program/stress & politics our last program will be 24 February 2019. I’m looking forward to having some me time with all that said I would like to say a special thank you to everybody that has contributed to the program this year a special thank you to Melicious Damage and Fifi FoFum as my regular presenters and then there’s our regular Dj‘s like Justin Scott, Tom Rogers, Victoria Anthony and Ophelia Shaft plus regular contributions by Felicity Frockaccino and Gavin Prendergast from (ACON) for their ongoing support to gay radio ... if there’s anyone out there in the community who would like to do a radio program and give up a few hours a week and do some training, please get in touch with the cooperative for more information. A program should only cost you around $1,000 a year plus any other outstanding expenses such as website or advertising : www.893fm.com.au my apologies not much good is happening in January but until next month be safe and look after yourself,

Until next time!

Be safe.  Love Buttercup xx

Column 69 !! Ho Ho Ho

Are we just being jolly or talking about the stage acts ? As some of you may know, I have never been one for Christmas. I've never had a real reason to celebrate, and the thought of doing Christmas spots made me cringe...

However, this year the tables have turned and I'm feeling a little excited, just like Big Kev. A drama free Christmas ...  Hopefully I don't get a sudden heart attack from all the excitement lol. 2018 will see me celebrating Christmas with my son now living with me and do the whole family thing OMFG. Will it be all turkey and pudding, or will it just be boring? But I do have something to look forward to next year I will become a Grandfather-Grandmother OMG !!

One good thing has come out of this year at Heaven Social Dance we raised over $28,092.10 since first starting with these funds going to The Western Suburbs Haven Inc & ACON. This money will be used to help support and promote the ENDING of HIV.  I would like to say a big thank you to all the performers that supported us this year as well as the Heaven Committee: Ian Stumbles, Greg Robert & LayDee KinMee. Also, a big thank you to all of our regulars that have supported us throughout the year. Hopefully this will be a sign of what’s to come in 2019 and patrons will continue to support Heaven at Mounties Bowling Club – Fairfield. It is so great to be able to give back to the L.G.B.T.Q .I community.

It looks to a BIG YEAR next year in Western Sydney with more drag queens working in the RSL and Clubs, hotels and  Social Dance's  providing entertainment like Bingo, Trivia, Drag Shows and productions for LGBTQI people. With less people travelling to the city now the West is ALIVE, here are a list of some of the things happening = Heaven Social Dance, Turbo Trivia, Turbo Bingo Balls, Gender Bender Bingo, Naughty Numbers, The 3 Sisters Social Group, Drag To Bitches, The Divas show, Drag Bingo, The Polly's Club & Pride Radio  89.3fm Every Sunday 6pm -8pm. OMG I told you so much happening in the west just search for them on Facebook or Google

Whilst on this subject, I do not do drag for a living as I have a full-time job, my first priority will always be to the LGBTI community; providing safe environments, raising awareness and money as Heaven and other social nights have done over the 11 years. They’ve raised more than $35,955.10 for ACON and The Haven in Western Sydney, I really hope that I can continue to do this in 2019 with your help.  Please support our nights in Western Sydney.  Please be aware that these social dances are not-for-profit social nights with all proceeds after initial costs being donated to charity.  Initial costs are function fees, DJ hire and a small entertainment budget.

Until next time (09JAN19) gorgeous Merry Christmas and a Gay New Year.  Be safe.  Love BB   www.beverlybuttercup.com

IF ITS MEANT TO BE !!!

After being involved and being part of the community radio network for over 17 years it all could come to an end on Thursday 8th November at the 2GLF Members meeting. This meeting will see the members having to vote on amendments to the broadcasting fees rules. It’s no longer good enough just to be a volunteer, to do something you like doing for the community it’s all about the money.

After this meeting we will have a better understanding of the future of gay radio in western Sydney as we now have to Pay for our program, Pay to volunteer to do something we love doing I’m a big believer in things happening for a reason if it’s meant to be it will be.  Should the proposal be voted in we will be looking for a sponsor for the program before we reapply next year. Hopefully we can lock this all in before the end of the year.

On a personal note I just want to remind people that for over 20 years we’ve had gay radio in Western Sydney with radio programs like ''Lesbians On Air'', ''Out West And Proud'', "Queer Out West'', ''Queer Radio Sydney'' and now Pride Radio no matter what happens no matter who does the program I really believe we should have a LGBTQI Program in Western Sydney. It’s a lot to ask people to give up the time to do something then have to organize funds. This is on top of organising time to do it, co-ordinating special guests and doing training courses there is a lot involved and I really hope we will be on air in 2019 I just want to say A BIG thank you to everybody that supports gay radio over the years.

WOW After 7 SELL OUT SHOWS at Campbelltown RSL, they’re back AGAIN!!! Drags to Bitches will present Drag out the Christmas tree. To get you in the Christmas spirit on the 24th November and it will sell out so be quick. So come and join us as we celebrate all that is DRAG and those fabulous BITCHES we all know and love...

Drags to Bitches are an ACE Award Winning Show it’s a tribute to all that is Drag and the Bitches who inspire them.  The specially designed show includes all of your favourite anthems and Divas in a 2 hour spectacular, so you can Drag in the New Year in ultimate party mode.

So much is changed in our community but then is one day we should not forget and that is WORLD AIDS DAY 1st December we should all reflect on the ones that we lost!! Pride Picnic Goes Out West

Hello, my darlings! Welcome to my latest column - it has been an interesting month and some fab stuff coming up for Western Sydney - so let's get to it and make a difference for our community out west!

Pride Picnic

Sunday 28th October will see the Parramatta River Foreshore explode in Gay Pride with the return of the annual Parramatta Pride Picnic in its 12th year.

Your hosts for the day will be the fabulous Marilyn Mootrub & Pomara Fifth and on the decks DJ Shaft.

There will be activities galore throughout the day including live entertainment, yoga class, book launch, readings, face painting, the rainbow kid’s area, rap artists, the gay & lesbian choir, bands, 35 community stalls, and the Priscilla Ferry (coming from Circular Quay). Various food vendors, Coffee van and a Fully Licensed bar. A special event called "THE GAYMAZING RACE" (where participants race around Parramatta CBD collecting stamps and clues and the WINNERS get prizes). The theme of this year's picnic is '' NO ONE LEFT BEHIND " to reflect the less than favorable response to Marriage Equality last year - we want our community in Western Sydney to know they are not alone, we want to be out and proud and living our best lives in the burbs !!! I really hope people make an effort to come to the PRIDE PICNIC, Riverside Foreshore in Parramatta (Ferry wharf) from 11 am - 5 pm

Get busy on all the socials with the hashtag:  #PARRAPRIDE18.

Heaven Update

Well in other news on 6th October, Heaven Social Dance had one of its quietest nights of the year.
Has our community become COMPLACENT?
Do our patrons believe we are always going to be there?
I understand that there is always going to be other things on but people have to understand we only do 5 dance’s a year, if people can’t attend 3 of them there is no point in us doing it.
We have just locked in all our dates for 2019 and we can only continue to run if we get the numbers to cover the cost of running the event, with all proceeds after initial cost being donated to charity. If we can’t get the numbers there is no point in me taking time off work and stressing and worrying about something other people do not care too much about.

On a personal note I created heaven with my fellow sisters and partners in crime to provide a safe place for the LGBTQI community in Western Sydney, their friends and family to socialise and drag queens to have somewhere to perform but it seems there’s not a lot of loyalty a lot of things have changed.

We have one more dance left at the end of the year it’s for World AIDS Day it will be our last “Red Party #7”.

All proceeds going to ACON so please mark it in your diary 8th December with 3 big shows 8, 9 &10pm hosted by LayDee KinMee, Melicious D’amage and Pomara Fifth with 12 fabulous performance @ Mounties Bowling Club Fairfield from 6 PM to 12 AM. $15 on the door.

For more information check out our website: www.heavensocialdamce.com - make sure you also join the official group here on Guidetogay.com

In other news!

The Polly’s Club sadly regrets that they have to CANCEL The Rainbow Costume Ball scheduled for 20th October due to a lack of interest and a lack of tickets sales. I am not quite sure what is going on but here’s another case of complacency people want these things, suggest these things but then don’t support them it is really sad because The Polly’s Club for many years has supported many organisations and have donated thousands of dollars to charity I was quite looking forward to the rainbow costume ball it was something different. I think people forget it costs money to run these kind of events I really hope people get behind the Polly's club for their World AIDS Day Dance "Under The Mirror Ball" 1 December @ Marrickville Town Hall tickets available online from 15th October for $25 or on the door for $30 on the night for more info www.thepollyscub.com.au

Show has been produced by my sister in crime at Pride Radio 89.3fm and Polly's Club member Melicious D’amage and from what I have been told the Pollys Girls and boys are going to be working their bits off.

Join the official Polly's group here on Guidetogay.com

So it’s spring time and it’s time to get together with friends at the Pollys club as they present “POLLY-TICKLY INCORRECT” It's the weekend where The Pollys Club Sydney gets really tongue in cheek. We've got naughty nuns, horny showgirls, super-fat sumo wrestlers, lustful Jesus cheerleaders, and at least one hundred references to genitalia of all sorts. Including that triangle thing that women have.
If you don't laugh watching this show, then you're probably an apathetic twat. When: September 15, Where : Marrickville Town Hall , From : 7pm -12am , Prebook via Sticky Tickets (link below) for $25 adult fee or $20 concession (must provide concession card upon entry). Otherwise, it's $30 on the door (cash only) for more info www.thepollysclub.com.au

DRAG GOSSIP ; Which Western Sydney Drag Queen did quit a multi award winning drag show after 2 years for the second time. First time due to a lack of bookings, and pursuing more financially stable drag and makeup work, One year on was it worth it?? The Award - Winning show is bigger and better than a year ago , fingers crossed people do not get bored with drag BINGO otherwise she'll be looking for Centrelink.. With so many drag queens now relying on work in local clubs and rsl  doing bingo or trivia I asked the question, Mirror Mirror on the wall, what will the future hold for those that don't have a backup plan ? Thank god I have a full time job and don't have to worry about things like this anymore. Will she now learn the difference between work collages and friends? Will her former work collages continue to be her friend? Sometimes it can get hard to distinguish the difference between work collages and friends..

SMILE AND BE HAPPY

Smile or Silence are two powerful tools. SMILE is the way to solve many problems and SILENCE is the way to avoid many problems... Choice is YOURS to make!? Its helped me so much in the last 12 months just SMILE & keep my mouth shut. (I never said I was good at it lol)

So much has changed with acceptance comes change or maybe just I’ve changed? Change can be a good thing or a bad thing and don’t get me started on politics. Let me pose a question! Do you think Western Sydney still needs LGBTQI events and social nights just for the LGBTQI Community anymore? As we have so much choice and have come a long way to be excepted I remember when starting (drag) 25 years ago we had so many social events as there were not many places the LGBTQI people could go to in Western Sydney but that is not the case anymore there is so much happening in the community I would love your feedback below don’t be shy gorgeoussssssssssss.

I"M SO EXCITED We had 4 fabulous dances at Mounties Bowling Club this year and I want to say a special thank you to everybody who has helped us raise over $30,000 at Heaven Social Dance for The Haven and ACON. With that said I'm proud to announce that we been very lucky to lock in dates for 2019 at Mounties Bowling Club - Fairfield on the second Saturday of every second month starting on 9th February 2019. A special thank you to the Mounties Group for their support and understanding throughout this process , as most people are aware a lot of things have changed and we need to keep up with the changes and we hope everyone will continue to support us at Mounties Bowling Club  and help us provide a safe place for the LGBTQI community and for the local Drag Kings/Queens to have somewhere to perform with some exciting things planned for 2019... www.heavensocialdance.com

THE POLLYS CLUB will present POLLY-TICKLY INCORRECT: Honey, what's this, what's happening, what's with all the dirty talk? Also, what's with the nuns? They seem to have an appreciation for short-cut dresses and curse words. They say the C-word rather well!!   Welcome to Polly-Tickly Incorrect, which is very politically incorrect. It is not recommended for small children, big Trump babies and social justice snowflakes. It contains naughty stuff, silly language and big floppy breasts. That last one is especially true if one of the cast members decides to de-frock onstage... It's not part of the routine but it is the reality of the situation. WHEN: Saturday 15th September 2018 WHERE: Marrickville Town Hall, COST: Pre-book via the website for $25 or $20 concession (must provide concession card upon entry). Otherwise it's $30 (cash only) at the door from 7pm-12am www.thepollysclub.com.au

IN OTHER NEWS  This year has been challenging to say the least I’ve tried my hardest to keep gay radio alive in Western Sydney in February this year we announced that we would be doing a new program called Pride Radio but we would have to pay to do it, so to continue doing the program we rely on people from the community to contribute to the program. We have been lucky enough to have The Polly's Club and Acon help us this year in paying for our Air time ($1000 a year). We still need funding for website advertising so if you can help out go to the website and make a small donation as I really think it’s important to keep the program going with or without me there should be always a LGBTQI community radio program. We would love to have your feedback!

Produced By Beverly Buttercup, With Fifi Fo’Fum and Melicious D’amage (on rotation) in the studio, Every Sunday 6pm-8pm, A LGBTQ Music Program Supporting L.G.B.T.Q Artists / DJ’s / + A weekly guest and Gavin Prendergast From ACON and Felicity Frockaccino on a fortnightly rotation at 7:15pm . Who are these 2 queens gorgeous? Well let's just say that sometimes swallowing causes damage…. With long-time rivals, let’s call them ‘'Celine & Barbara'' sucking it up and coming together for charity to raise money for their singing teacher. Will this be the beginning of something new time will only tell (Drag) is just so competitive now specially for those working girls that do drag for a living thank God I only do it socially now lol once or twice a year .... Something NEW to be announced next month testing the waters with a new event!?

It's celebration time!

Wow this month The Polly's club celebrate 54 years supporting the LGBTQI Community, over the years Polly's have donated thousands of dollars back to community organizations because that’s what they do support the community. This month they return to the Roundhouse at Kensington to put on a birthday party like you’ve never seen before Polly's will present "The Bitches Of Broadway!"

Produced by Sue Allen a long time member. The Polly's show cast have been rehearsing for weeks to put on an amazing show, this is one birthday party not to be missed. Tickets available online $35 or on the door for $45. Unlike their Marrickville dances this is NOT a BYO event or are you able to bring your own nibbles. Come out and support The Pollys Club, a not for profit organisation and one of the longest running LGBTQI social clubs...

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Polly's committee for donating money to keep ''Pride Radio 89.3fm Every Sunday from 6pm - 8pm www.prideradio893fm.com organisations like Polly's only exist because the community members support Polly's check out their official website for up-and-coming dances they do five a year and give so much back to the community so if you have the opportunity go and check some of them out normally at the Marrickville Town hall.

www.thepollysclub.com.au

So much has come and gone in Western Sydney and in the city so people need to get out and support social events like Heaven Social Dance , The Polly's club, Unity Wollongong & The 3 Sisters Social Group in the blue mountains the only ones left running on a regular basis, over the years they’re stuck it out through the bad and the good so please support these organisations that give back to the community because without you they wouldn’t exist

With the growing amount of acceptance also comes change with a lot of LGBTQ venues either closing down or don't exist anymore. We no longer need to travel into the city for a safe refuge as our local pub and clubs are now so accepting and we can hang out with all of our friends both gay and straight and in venues much closer to home, and Western Sydney is BOOMING at the moment with drag trivia’s and bingos popping up everywhere.

Portia Turbo is the head queen at the ever popular and expanding TURBO TRIVIA & TURBO BALLS and writes up a fabulous variety of questions and games each week for you to enjoy. You aint never seen trivia quite like this.
It's Free to play and all the venues have excellent kitchens, so bring your friends for a fun and inexpensive night out.

Monday: At The Overlander, Cambridge Gardens (Penrith) = Bingo 7:30pm With April Fools.
Tuesdays: At Parramatta RSL = Trivia 7pm With Portia Turbo.
Tuesdays: At Penrith Hotel = Trivia 7pm With LayDee KinMee.
Wednesdays: At Mounties Triglav (in St Johns Park) = Trivia 7pm With LayDee KinMee.
Wednesdays: At Mr Watkins Bar ( Penrith) = Bingo from 7pm - 9pm With April Fools.

Which Western Sydney  drag queen is being sued and might just end up in court !?  The poor luv does everything right by people and she is having one pulled over her.
